Helping Men Come Home for Good

The Philemon Ministry is a mentoring community that supports men from incarceration into stable living.

Philemon exists to encourage Christlike behavior in men as they navigate the pitfalls of reentry. We provide our men with a context where they can focus on spiritual health, decompression, healthy relationships, acts of service, and financial peace. We accomplish this through a series of touchpoints interwoven throughout group interactions, one-on-one mentoring, and communal living.

Our 4 Pillars

“The meaning of earthly existence is not, as we have grown used to thinking, in prosperity, but in the development of the soul.” - Alexander Solzhenitsyn

We believe that a man's spiritual health is the barometer for the quality of the rest of his life. Practicing spiritual disciplines helps the soul to thrive. When the soul thrives, a man is better equipped to face the world.

We believe in the innate, organic power of the Church, that the Church provides a context where there is a mutual exchange of giving and receiving. Our men fare better because of the Christian community that Philemon provides them. Our men do not have to go at it alone because of this community.

“Accountability separates the wishers in life from the action-takers that care enough about their future to account for their daily actions.” - John Di Lemme

“Give someone responsibility and they will do their best. Make them accountable and they will do even better.” - Simon Sinek

Our ability to hold our men accountable is the difference between success and failure.

We are at our best when we are "other-people" minded and serving others. This goes against the grain of our culture, but it is the way of Christ and the way to true fulfillment. Critical to our mission is providing meaningful opportunities for our men to serve our neighbors.

“Welcome him as you would welcome me.”

The Apostle Paul  |  Philemon 1:17

Home For Good

The Apostle Paul, in his letter to Philemon, asserted that Philemon's slave Onesimus was separated for a time from his master so that he could "return to do good" as a Christian brother.

In the same way, we want to help men returning to Baltimore from prison to stand on their own and "do good.” The Philemon Ministry is a supportive community dedicated to the truth of Jesus Christ: his unmatched power of redemption, healing, and regeneration. Because of Christ, men can and are returning "home for good."
